'Kuselan' 'Rajini special' chocolates invade USA
For the first time ever in the history of the USA, an Indian film actor is being featured in highly sought-after products. M&M is a huge household name in the United States when it comes to candy. It is a brand that is synonymous with sweets and is adored by kids as well as adults. It is this company that wants to be associated with the Indian film superstar in a bid to woo Rajini fans in the United States. Customizing superstar Rajinikanth image on the candies is indeed a phenomenal beginning and a valid recognition to the star power the Indian actor enjoys in far away United States.
'We have ordered 20 pounds of candies for every city where the movie is screened in the USA and will be distributed to Rajini Fans on the premier show' said Jayavel Murugan, a major distributor of Indian films in the USA. He is extremely happy at the unbelievable response the movie has generated in the USA.
Every Rajini movie in the recent past has generated a lot of interest among multitudes of people from Indian origin. 'Kuselan' is in many ways the moment of reckoning pertaining to all the interest generated over the years.
Rajini imprinted M&M candies and huge vinyl cutouts will light up the launch of superstar Rajinikanth's 'Kuselan' in all cities in the USA. Imagine huge Rajini cut-outs at all the theaters releasing 'Kuselan' and candies with Rajini images being showered on all those coming for the premier show. Just perfect.
Movie lovers coming in for the premier shows would not only be showered with the candies but will also be treated to mouth-watering 'Rajini Special' Dosas. All this has the look and feel of a carnival. This carnival atmosphere can be created in movie theaters only by the magnificent aura that the name Rajinikanth creates.
A slice of India is being experienced in the United States and it sure is a welcome sign.
Pyramid Saimira distributes 'Kuselan' in the USA. 'We are ordering a total of 50 prints for USA and no city would be without the movie's launch on the release weekend', said a representative.
Time at your fingertips

The Tx54 is a concept for a translucent watch to be worn of your thumbnail. No kidding. Displaying a timer, clock and calendar as well as color for the displayed text and the translucent feature which allows this watch to blend in completely into your nail unless activated and to add to that, it’s also disposable. Now, that makes it handy. Designed by Timex and Core77, this watch made runner-up at the global watch design competition. Remember… it’s a concept.

17-year-old honoured with MTech from IIT
It is a family friend, who discovered the boy's inquisitiveness and picking up things very quickly. So they thought it would be interesting to put him in an international certificate program. Thus at 11 years, Chandrasekar became the youngest Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer and Cisco Certified Network Associate. In August 2002, Chandrasekar was appointed an honorary director of the Technology Information Forecasting and Assessment Council Center of Relevance and Excellence in network engineering.
In 2002, an Anna University committee, headed by Vice-Chancellor Dr Balaguruswamy, assessed the boys capabilities and decided to admit him into the BE program, which he cleared when he was 15. He then took the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering and scored 99.32 percentile, which left no room for academics at IIT-M to have second thoughts about admitting him into the MTech course.
"The best thing about him is his consistent performance. When he is interested in something, he pursues it with great commitment and purpose," says Subramanian. BE was not very tough.
"In the first semester the environment was new, so I had a little difficulty both academically and psychologically. But Dr Thangaraj, now Vice-Chancellor of Kalasalingam University, gave me a nice home-like atmosphere, and after the first four or five months there was never a problem, says Chandrasekar.
Chandrasekar' s father R Subramanian, an auditor, "Chandrasekar was a precocious child, according to his parents. His teachers used to complain that he would finish his work quickly and disturb other children, so we asked them to give him some books to read after he finishes work so he doesn't trouble the other children."

IT jobs to grow ten fold
The study elaborates, “India will continue to drive the global IT market for the next few years. In fact, it will emerge as the second most important IT industry in the world after the US in terms of revenue and employment."
"India will create the second largest IT services labour pool after the US within the next seven to eight years. That's not all, domestic IT industry's contribution to our GDP is likely to rise from 0.8 per cent in 2006-07 to 2.65 per cent by 2015-16."
This has been forecasted by a yet to be released white paper ‘India's Role in the Globalization of the IT Industry' by Evalueserve, a KPO. It says, "by 2015-2016, the number of professionals working in the IT industry will grow ten fold (from 2001-2002) and the total revenue will grow 22 times."
This means, the IT industry is likely to employ 3,750,000 professionals and record $193.1 billion in revenue by 2015-16.
"Since India's GDP is growing at 8.5 per cent per annum in real terms and 14 per cent in nominal terms, by 2015-16 our GDP is likely to be $2,400 billion. Given this, the IT industry is likely to constitute 8.05 per cent of India's GDP."
While in the last decade, IT services exports (including engineering services, R&D, and those related to creating and maintaining software products) have been growing at 32 per cent annually.
Evalueserve estimates this growth rate will taper off and become around 20 per cent in the next seven to eight years. The reason: rising wages, lack of high quality talent, and IT jobs relocating to other low-cost destinations in Eastern Europe and Latin America.
The paper thus concludes: First, by 2016 India will have the second highest number of IT professionals in the world after the US. In fact, US will employ between 1.25 to 1.33 times more professionals than India.
Second, even in 2016, the US IT industry will generate approximately $810 billion in annual revenue, which would be almost five times the revenue of the Indian IT industry.
And third, since the IT industries in both the US and India have become inextricably linked with one another, both countries will import and export more IT services and products for the next seven to eight years.

How Taliban is using technology
The Taliban hanged televisions and music tapes from trees in an effort to stamp out corrupting Western influences during their hardline Islamist rule of Afghanistan from 1996 to 2001. Their leaders had only one computer, Afghanistan experts say.
But after US-led and Afghan forces toppled the austere movement following the September 11, 2001, attacks, the militants regrouped and re-launched their insurgency in 2005, copying the tactics of roadside and suicide bombs from Iraq.
Now, the Taliban have also created a "sophisticated communications apparatus" using the full range of media allowing them to project an "increasingly confident movement,” the International Crisis Group (ICG) said in a report.
With their own website, magazines, DVDs, audio cassettes, pamphlets and mobile phones, the ICG says, the Taliban are able to capitalise on mistakes made by the government and its allies and reveal their own “inflated tales of battlefield exploits.”
Taliban statements emailed to the media talk of killing “puppet terrorists,” meaning Afghan security forces, and destroying "occupation tanks" and seizing their arms.
So-called night-letters are delivered to homes warning Afghans against cooperating with the government and international troops, while DVDs, text and video messages are aimed at the more tech-savvy.
Alienation
The ICG said the Afghan government and its allies must try harder to combat weakening public support and alienation caused by arbitrary detentions and civilian casualties which the Taliban are able to exploit through their media.
"Whatever the military benefits of arbitrary detentions, they are far outweighed by the alienation they cause," the ICG said.
A series of air strikes by international forces in Afghanistan in the last month, Afghan officials say, have killed more than 60 civilians.
"The effectiveness of aerial bombardment, even if strictly exercised within the bounds of international law, must be considered against the damage to popular support," the ICG said.
The Taliban, it said, are not going to be defeated militarily and are resistant to outside criticism.
"Rather the legitimacy of its ideas and actions must be challenged more forcefully by the Afghan government and citizens," the ICG said.
Militants should be held to public account for killing civilians and targeting community leaders through open trials, and the Afghan government and its international allies should similarly be bound by the rule of law, the ICG said.
"Ultimately, winning popular support is not about telling local communities that they are better off today. It is about proving it," it said.

Hottest 5-8 megapixel camera phones

What is it that makes iPhone look `ancient'? Its 2 megapixel camera. iPhone's 2 megapixel camera falls pale in front of today's cell phones --many of which have as high as 10 megapixel camera.
This constant upward swing of megapixels in camphone is in fact threatening the digicam market, which boasts 10 megapixel at high-end.
With support for 5 to 8 megapixel resolution, cell phones have cameras of equal or even higher-resolution as compared to the current-day digicams.
Samsung was first to introduce a 10 megapixel camphone with 3 x digital zoom in 2006, its touchscreen phone Omnia too packs a 5 megapixel camera. Recently, Sony Ericsson refreshed its portfolio with an 8 megapixel camera phone.
Here's a peek into hot-n-happening camphones in the market.
Sony Ericsson C905

Bermuda Triangle
The Triangle area
The boundaries of the Triangle vary with the author; some stating its shape is akin to a trapezoid covering the Straits of Florida, the Bahamas, and the entire Caribbean island area east to the Azores; others add to it the Gulf of Mexico. The more familiar, triangular boundary in most written works has as its points somewhere on the Atlantic coast of Florida; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and the mid-Atlantic island of Bermuda, with most of the accidents concentrated along the southern boundary around the Bahamas and the Florida Straits.
The area is one of the most heavily-sailed shipping lanes in the world, with ships crossing through it daily for ports in the Americas, Europe, and the Caribbean Islands. Cruise ships are also plentiful, and pleasure craft regularly go back and forth between Florida and the islands. It is also a heavily flown route for commercial and private aircraft heading towards Florida, the Caribbean, and South America from points north.
The Gulf Stream ocean current flows through the Triangle after leaving the Gulf of Mexico; its current of five to six knots may have played a part in a number of disappearances. Sudden storms can and do appear, and in the summer to late fall hurricanes strike the area. The combination of heavy maritime traffic and tempestuous weather makes it inevitable that vessels could founder in storms and be lost without a trace – especially before improved telecommunications, radar, and satellite technology arrived late in the 20th century.
History of the Triangle story
According to the Triangle authors, Christopher Columbus was the first person to document something strange in the Triangle, reporting that he and his crew observed "strange dancing lights on the horizon", flames in the sky, and at another point he wrote in his log about bizarre compass bearings in the area. From his log book, dated October 11, 1492 he wrote:
- The land was first seen by a sailor (Rodrigo de Triana), although the Admiral at ten o'clock that evening standing on the quarter-deck saw a light, but so small a body that he could not affirm it to be land; calling to Pero Gutiérrez, groom of the King's wardrobe, he told him he saw a light, and bid him look that way, which he did and saw it; he did the same to Rodrigo Sánchez of Segovia, whom the King and Queen had sent with the squadron as comptroller, but he was unable to see it from his situation. The Admiral again perceived it once or twice, appearing like the light of a wax candle moving up and down, which some thought an indication of land. But the Admiral held it for certain that land was near...
Modern scholars checking the original log books have surmised that the lights he saw were the cooking fires of Taino natives in their canoes or on the beach; the compass problems were the result of a false reading based on the movement of a star.
The first article of any kind in which the legend of the Triangle began appeared in newspapers by E.V.W. Jones on September 16, 1950, through the Associated Press. years later, Fate magazine published "Sea Mystery At Our Back Door" , a short article by George X. Sand covering the loss of several planes and ships, including the loss of Flight 19, a group of five U.S. Navy TBM Avenger bombers on a training mission. Sand's article was the first to lay out the now-familiar triangular area where the losses took place. Flight 19 alone would be covered in the April 1962 issue of American Legion Magazine. It was claimed that the flight leader had been heard saying "We are entering white water, nothing seems right. We don't know where we are, the water is green, no white." It was also claimed that officials at the Navy board of inquiry stated that the planes "flew off to Mars." This was the first article to connect the supernatural to Flight 19, but it would take another author, Vincent Gaddis, writing in the February 1964 Argosy magazine to take Flight 19 together with other mysterious disappearances and place it under the umbrella of a new catchy name: "The Deadly Bermuda Triangle"; he would build on that article with a more detailed book, Invisible Horizons, the next year. Others would follow with their own works: John Wallace Spencer (Limbo of the Lost, 1969) ; Charles Berlitz (The Bermuda Triangle, 1974); Richard Winer (The Devil's Triangle, 1974) , and many others, all keeping to some of the same supernatural elements outlined by Eckert.
Kusche's explanation
Lawrence David Kusche, a research librarian from Arizona State University and author of The Bermuda Triangle Mystery: Solved (1975) has challenged this trend. Kusche's research revealed a number of inaccuracies and inconsistencies between Berlitz's accounts and statements from eyewitnesses, participants, and others involved in the initial incidents. He noted cases where pertinent information went unreported, such as the disappearance of round-the-world yachtsman Donald Crowhurst, which Berlitz had presented as a mystery, despite clear evidence to the contrary. Another example was the ore-carrier Berlitz recounted as lost without trace three days out of an Atlantic port when it had been lost three days out of a port with the same name in the Pacific Ocean. Kusche also argued that a large percentage of the incidents which have sparked the Triangle's mysterious influence actually occurred well outside it. Often his research was surprisingly simple: he would go over period newspapers and see items like weather reports that were never mentioned in the stories.
Kusche came to several conclusions:
- The number of ships and aircraft reported missing in the area was not significantly greater, proportionally speaking, than in any other part of the ocean.
- In an area frequented by tropical storms, the number of disappearances that did occur were, for the most part, neither disproportionate, unlikely, nor mysterious; furthermore, Berlitz and other writers would often fail to mention such storms.
- The numbers themselves had been exaggerated by sloppy research. A boat listed as missing would be reported, but its eventual (if belated) return to port may not be reported.
- Some disappearances had in fact, never happened. One plane crash was said to have taken place in 1937 off Daytona Beach, Florida, in front of hundreds of witnesses; a check of the local papers revealed nothing.
Kusche concluded that:
- The Legend of the Bermuda Triangle is a manufactured mystery… perpetuated by writers who either purposely or unknowingly made use of misconceptions, faulty reasoning, and sensationalism. §Epilogue, p. 277
Other responses
The marine insurer Lloyd's of London has determined the Triangle to be no more dangerous than any other area of ocean, and does not charge unusual rates for passage through the region. United States Coast Guard records confirm their conclusion. In fact, the number of supposed disappearances is relatively insignificant considering the number of ships and aircraft which pass through on a regular basis.
The Coast Guard is also officially skeptical of the Triangle, noting that they collect and publish, through their inquiries, much documentation contradicting many of the incidents written about by the Triangle authors. In one such incident involving the 1972 explosion and sinking of the tanker V.A. Fogg in the Gulf of Mexico, the Coast Guard photographed the wreck and recovered several bodies despite one Triangle author stating that all the bodies had vanished, with the exception of the captain, who was found sitting in his cabin at his desk, clutching a coffee cup. , 1973 edition
The NOVA / Horizon episode The Case of the Bermuda Triangle (1976-06-27) was highly critical stating that "When we've gone back to the original sources or the people involved the mystery evaporates. Science does not have to answer questions about the Triangle because those questions are not valid in the first place. ... Ships and planes behave in the Triangle the same way they behave everywhere else in the world"
Skeptical researchers, such as Ernest Taves and Barry , have noted how mysteries and the paranormal are very popular and profitable. This has led to the production of vast amounts of material on topics such as the Bermuda Triangle. They were able to show that some of the pro-paranormal material is often misleading or not accurate, but its producers continue to market it. They have therefore claimed that the market is biased in favour of books, TV specials, et cetera. which support the Triangle mystery and against well-researched material if it espouses a skeptical viewpoint.
Finally, if the Triangle is assumed to cross land, such as parts of Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, or Bermuda itself, there is no evidence for the disappearance of any land-based vehicles or persons. Located inside the Triangle, Freeport operates a major shipyard, an airport which yearly handles 50,000 flights and is visited by over a million tourists annually.
Natural explanations
Methane hydrates
Source: USGS
An explanation for some of the disappearances has focused on the presence of vast fields of methane hydrates on the continental shelves. Laboratory experiments carried out in Australia have proven that bubbles can, indeed, sink a scale model ship by decreasing the density of the water; any wreckage consequently rising to the surface would be rapidly dispersed by the Gulf Stream. It has been hypothesized that periodic methane eruptions (sometimes called "mud volcanoes") may produce regions of frothy water that are no longer capable of providing adequate buoyancy for ships. If this were the case, such an area forming around a ship could cause it to sink very rapidly and without warning.
A white paper was published in 1981 by the United States Geological Survey about the appearance of hydrates in the Blake Ridge area, off the southeastern United States coast. However, according to a USGS web page, no large releases of gas hydrates are believed to have occurred in the Bermuda Triangle for the past 15,000 years.
Compass variations
Compass problems are one of the cited phrases in many Triangle incidents. Some have theorized the possibility of unusual local magnetic anomalies in the area, however these have not been shown to exist. It should also be remembered that compasses have natural magnetic variations in relation to the Magnetic poles. For example, in the United States the only places where magnetic (compass) north and geographic (true) north are exactly the same are on a line running from Wisconsin to the Gulf of Mexico. Navigators have known this for centuries. But the public may not be as informed and think there is something mysterious about the compass "changing" across an area as large as the Triangle, which it naturally will.
Hurricanes
Hurricanes are extremely powerful storms which are spawned in the Atlantic near the equator, and have historically been responsible for thousands of lives lost and billions of dollars in damage. The sinking of Francisco de Bobadilla's Spanish fleet in 1502 was the first recorded instance of a destructive hurricane. These storms have in the past caused a number of incidents related to the Triangle.
Gulf Stream
The Gulf Stream is an ocean current that originates in the Gulf of Mexico, and then through the Straits of Florida, into the North Atlantic. In essence, it is a river within an ocean, and like a river, it can and does carry floating objects. A small plane making a water landing or a boat having engine trouble will be carried away from its reported position by the current, as happened to the cabin cruiser Witchcraft on December 22, 1967, when it reported engine trouble near the Miami buoy marker one mile (1.6 km) from shore, but was not there when a Coast Guard cutter arrived.
Freak waves
Extremely large waves can appear seemingly at random, even in calm seas. One such rogue wave caused the Ocean Ranger, then the world's largest offshore platform, to capsize off the coast of Newfoundland in 1982. There is, however, no particular reason to believe rogue waves are more common in the Bermuda region, and this explanation cannot account for the loss of airplanes.
Acts of man
Human error
One of the most cited explanations in official inquiries as to the loss of any aircraft or vessel is human error. Whether deliberate or accidental, humans have been known to make mistakes resulting in catastrophe, and losses within the Bermuda Triangle are no exception. For example, the Coast Guard cited a lack of proper training for the cleaning of volatile benzene residue as a reason for the loss of the tanker V.A. Fogg in 1972. Human stubbornness may have caused businessman Harvey Conover to lose his sailing yacht, the Revonoc, as he sailed into the teeth of a storm south of Florida on January 1, 1958. Many losses remain inconclusive due to the lack of wreckage which could be studied, a fact cited on many official reports.
Deliberate acts of destruction
This can fall into two categories: acts of war, and acts of piracy. Records in enemy files have been checked for numerous losses; while many sinkings have been attributed to surface raiders or submarines during the World Wars and documented in the various command log books, many others which have been suspected as falling in that category have not been proven; it is suspected that the loss of USS Cyclops in 1918, as well as her sister ships Proteus and Nereus in World War II, were attributed to submarines, but no such link has been found in the German records.
Piracy, as defined by the taking of a ship or small boat on the high seas, is an act which continues to this day. While piracy for cargo theft is more common in the western Pacific and Indian oceans, drug smugglers do steal pleasure boats for smuggling operations, and may have been involved in crew and yacht disappearances in the Caribbean. Historically famous pirates of the Caribbean (where piracy was common from about 1560 to the 1760s) include Edward Teach (Blackbeard) and Jean Lafitte. Lafitte is sometimes said to be a Triangle victim himself.
Another form of pirate operated on dry land. Bankers or wreckers would shine a light on shore to misdirect ships, which would then founder on the shore; the wreckers would then help themselves to the cargo. It is possible that these wreckers also killed any crew who protested. Nags Head, North Carolina, was named for the wreckers' practice of hanging a lantern on the head of a hobbled horse as it walked along the beach.
Popular theories
Triangle writers have used a number of supernatural theories to explain the events. One explanation pins the blame on leftover technology from the lost continent of Atlantis. Sometimes connected to the Atlantis story is the submerged rock formation known as the Bimini Road off the island of Bimini in the Bahamas, which is in the Triangle by some definitions. Followers of the purported psychic Edgar Cayce take his prediction that evidence of Atlantis would be found in 1968 as referring to the discovery of the Bimini Road. Believers describe the formation as a road, wall, or other structure, though geologists consider it to be of natural origin.
Other writers attribute the events to UFOs. This idea was used by Steven Spielberg for his film Close Encounters of the Third Kind, which features the lost Flight 19 as alien abductees.
Charles Berlitz, grandson of a distinguished linguist and author of various additional books on anomalous phenomena, has kept in line with this extraordinary explanation, and attributed the losses in the Triangle to anomalous or unexplained forces.
Famous incidents
Flight 19
Flight 19 was a training flight of TBM Avenger bombers that went missing on December 5, 1945 while over the Atlantic. The impression is given that the flight encountered unusual phenomena and anomalous compass readings, and that the flight took place on a calm day under the supervision of an experienced pilot, Lt. Charles Carroll Taylor. Adding to the intrigue is that the Navy's report of the accident was ascribed to "causes or reasons unknown." It is believed that Taylor's mother wanted to save her son's reputation, so she made them write "reasons unknown" when actually Taylor was 50 km NW from where he thought he was.
While the basic facts of this version of the story are essentially accurate, some important details are missing. The weather was becoming stormy by the end of the incident; only Taylor had any significant flying time, but he was not familiar with the south Florida area and had a history of getting lost in flight, having done so three times during World War II, and being forced to ditch his planes twice into the water; and naval reports and written recordings of the conversations between Taylor and the other pilots of Flight 19 do not indicate magnetic problems.
Mary Celeste
The mysterious abandonment in 1872 of the Mary Celeste is often but inaccurately connected to the Triangle, the ship having been abandoned off the coast of Portugal. The event is possibly confused with the sinking of a ship with a similar name, the Mari Celeste, off the coast of Bermuda on September 13, 1864. Kusche noted that many of the "facts" about this incident were actually about the Marie Celeste, the fictional ship from Arthur Conan Doyle's short story J. Habakuk Jephson's Statement (based on the real Mary Celeste incident, but fictionalised).
Ellen Austin
The Ellen Austin supposedly came across an abandoned derelict, placed on board a prize crew, and attempted to sail with it to New York in 1881. According to the stories, the derelict disappeared; others elaborating further that the derelict reappeared minus the prize crew, then disappeared again with a second prize crew on board. A check of Lloyd's of London records proved the existence of the Meta, built in 1854; in 1880 the Meta was renamed Ellen Austin. There are no casualty listings for this vessel, or any vessel at that time, that would suggest a large number of missing men placed on board a derelict which later disappeared.
USS Cyclops
The incident resulting in the single largest loss of life in the history of the US Navy not related to combat occurred when USS Cyclops under the command of Lt Cdr G. W. Worley, went missing without a trace with a crew of 309 sometime after March 4, 1918, after departing the island of Barbados. Although there is no strong evidence for any theory, storms, capsizing and enemy activity have all been suggested as explanations.
Theodosia Burr Alston
Theodosia Burr Alston was the daughter of former United States Vice President Aaron Burr. Her disappearance has been cited at least once in relation to the Triangle. She was a passenger on board the Patriot, which sailed from Charleston, South Carolina to New York City on December 30, 1812, and was never heard from again. Both piracy and the War of 1812 have been posited as explanations, as well as a theory placing her in Texas, well outside the Triangle.
Spray
- Main article: Spray (sailing vessel)
Captain Joshua Slocum's skill as a mariner was beyond argument; he was the first man to sail around the world solo. In 1909, in his boat Spray he set out on a course to take him through the Caribbean to Venezuela. He disappeared; there was no evidence he was even in the Triangle when Spray was lost. It was assumed he was run down by a steamer or struck by a whale, the Spray being too sound a craft and Slocum too experienced a mariner for any other cause to be considered likely, and in 1924 he was declared legally dead. While a mystery, there is no known evidence for, or against, paranormal activity.
Carroll A. Deering
A five-masted schooner built in 1919, the Carroll A. Deering was found hard aground and abandoned at Diamond Shoals, near Cape Hatteras, North Carolina on January 31, 1921. Rumors and more at the time indicated the Deering was a victim of piracy, possibly connected with the illegal rum-running trade during Prohibition, and possibly involving another ship, S.S. Hewitt, which disappeared at roughly the same time. Just hours later, an unknown steamer sailed near the lightship along the track of the Deering, and ignored all signals from the lightship. It is speculated that the Hewitt may have been this mystery ship, and possibly involved in the Deering crew's disappearance.
Douglas DC-3
On December 28, 1948, a Douglas DC-3 aircraft, number NC16002, disappeared while on a flight from San Juan, Puerto Rico, to Miami. No trace of the aircraft or the 32 people onboard was ever found. From the documentation compiled by the Civil Aeronautics Board investigation, a possible key to the plane's disappearance was found, but barely touched upon by the Triangle writers: the plane's batteries were inspected and found to be low on charge, but ordered back into the plane without a recharge by the pilot while in San Juan. Whether or not this led to complete electrical failure will never be known. However, since piston-engined aircraft rely upon magnetos to provide spark to their cylinders rather than a battery powered ignition coil system, this theory is not strongly convincing.
Star Tiger and Star Ariel
- Main article: Star Tiger and Star Ariel
These Avro Tudor IV passenger aircraft disappeared without trace en route to Bermuda and Jamaica, respectively. Star Tiger was lost on January 30, 1948 on a flight from the Azores to Bermuda. Star Ariel was lost on January 17, 1949, on a flight from Bermuda to Kingston, Jamaica. Neither aircraft gave out a distress call; in fact, their last messages were routine. A possible clue to their disappearance was found in the mountains of the Andes in 1998: the Star Dust, an Avro Lancastrian airliner run by the same airline, had disappeared on a flight from Buenos Aires, Argentina, to Santiago, Chile on August 2, 1947. The plane's remains were discovered at the melt end of a glacier, suggesting that either the crew did not pay attention to their instruments, suffered an instrument failure or did not allow for headwind effects from the jetstream on the way to Santiago when it hit a mountain peak, with the resulting avalanche burying the remains and incorporating it into the glacier. However, this is mere speculation with regard to the Star Tiger and Star Ariel, pending the recovery of the aircraft. It should be noted that the Star Tiger was flying at a height of just 2,000 feet (610 m), which would have meant that if the plane was forced down, there would have been no time to send out a distress message. It is also far too low for the jetstream or any other high-altitude wind to have any effect.
KC-135 Stratotankers
On August 28, 1963 a pair of U.S. Air Force KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft collided and crashed into the Atlantic. The Triangle version (Winer, Berlitz, Gaddis ) of this story specifies that they did collide and crash, but there were two distinct crash sites, separated by over 160 miles (260 km) of water. However, Kusche's research showed that the unclassified version of the Air Force investigation report stated that the debris field defining the second "crash site" was examined by a search and rescue ship, and found to be a mass of seaweed and driftwood tangled in an old buoy.
SS Marine Sulphur Queen
SS Marine Sulphur Queen, a T2 tanker converted from oil to sulfur carrier, was last heard from on February 4, 1963 with a crew of 39 near the Florida Keys. Marine Sulphur Queen was the first vessel mentioned in Vincent Gaddis' 1964 Argosy Magazine article, but he left it as having "sailed into the unknown", despite the Coast Guard report which not only documented the ship's badly-maintained history, but declared that it was an unseaworthy vessel that should never have gone to sea.
Raifuku Maru
One of the more famous incidents in the Triangle took place in 1921 (some say a few years later), when the Japanese vessel Raifuku Maru (sometimes misidentified as Raikuke Maru) went down with all hands after sending a distress signal which allegedly said "Danger like dagger now. Come quick!", or "It's like a dagger, come quick!" This has led writers to speculate on what the "dagger" was, with a waterspout being the likely candidate (Winer). In reality the ship was nowhere near the Triangle, nor was the word "dagger" a part of the ship's distress call ("Now very danger. Come quick."); having left Boston for Hamburg, Germany, on April 21, 1925, she got caught in a severe storm and sank in the North Atlantic with all hands while another ship, RMS Homeric, attempted an unsuccessful rescue.
Connemara IV
A pleasure yacht found adrift in the Atlantic south of Bermuda on September 26, 1955; it is usually stated in the stories (Berlitz, Winer) that the crew vanished while the yacht survived being at sea during three hurricanes. The 1955 Atlantic hurricane season lists only one storm coming near Bermuda towards the end of August, hurricane "Edith"; of the others, "Flora" was too far to the east, and "Katie" arrived after the yacht was recovered. It was confirmed that the Connemara IV was empty and in port when "Edith" may have caused the yacht to slip her moorings and drift out to sea.

AIIMS doctors work a miracle
“In my 35-year long career, this is the first time I have see a case like this,” said Dr M C Misra, chief of Jai Prakash Narayan Apex Trauma Centre, AIIMS, while briefing the media about case. So was it for most of the doctors who operated on Dutta after he met with a car accident on July 12.
The iron angle which impaled him had pierced through the car’s bonnet and dashboard. The surgery itself took 3 hours and 15 minutes to complete, and almost another 3 hours to wind up the procedure.
“I was shocked to see him. He was on the stretcher holding the iron angle. Groaning in pain, he kept asking people to move aside so that the angle wasn’t disturbed. His blood pressure, pulse etc were normal though he was having difficulty in breathing,” said Tej Prakash, senior resident.
The iron angle had pierced through his liver, stomach, spleen, left lung and perforated the upper part of the diaphragm at two places and come out by breaking the 10th rib of Dutta’s back. “The heart rests on the diaphragm and the iron angle missed the heart by a few millimetres. He is really lucky. The spleen was badly damaged and we had to take it out. Luckily, Dutta had a extra small spleen, which we left inside,” said Dr Sushma Sagar, one of the surgeons. MIRACULOUS SURVIVOR Datta’s case posed challenges to docs
New Delhi: When 23-year-old executive Supradim Datta was brought to the AIIMS trauma centre with a five-foot-long iron angle pierced right through his chest, it posed serious challenges to doctors. They couldn’t do any of the crucial diagnostic tests, like X-ray and CT scan. “Time was running out and we couldn’t wait for diagnostic tests. Anyway, a CT scan was just not possible with a five-foot angle stuck across his upper abdomen,” said Dr Biplab Mishra, one of the operating surgeons.
Without these tests, the doctors had to guess the extent of internal damage and the organs affected. “Usually, these diagnostic tests help us in deciding the course of surgery, but in this case we had to proceed without knowing for sure which organs were involved,” Dr Mishra added. Dutta was brought to the hospital at 7.40 am, nearly one-and-half-hours after the accident. By 8.10 am, doctors had rolled him inside the operation theatre. The first incision was carried out at 9 am.
The biggest challenge was to anaesthetize Dutta. The angle was so placed
that the doctors couldn’t make him lie down on the table.
“In this case, anaesthesia was given with him in a sitting position and without knowing whether any main blood vessel was damaged or not,” said Dr Chhavi Sawhney, assistant professor, anaesthesia. Instead of taking the conventional approach — entering through the abdominal cavity or by cutting the breastbone open — the doctors decided to cut Supratim from the left side. Dr Biplab Mishra said, “A movement backward or forward would have caused more damage. So we decided to cut him from the side. After making the incision, we had to cut three of his ribs to enter the area where the angle was lodged.
Then we carefully opened the diaphragm and made a passage to pull the angle. It took us just 15 minutes to pull the rod in one piece. But as the rod had caused a lot of damage to the other vital organs, we took three hours to repair the damage. We fixed the ribs with wires.”
Doctors say that Dutta is recovering and can walk, but they are taking a lot of precautions as his spleen has been removed and he is prone to contracting infections.

'Fear' cells in brain identified
NEW YORK: Scientists in the United States have identified brain cells linked to fear, paving the way for a more effective treatment of post-traumatic stress and other anxiety disorders. It has been found that people with anxiety disorders exhibit an "extinction deficit," or a failure to "forget". However, until recently, the mechanisms of extinction have remained unknown. The latest path breaking research, which was published online by journal Nature on July 9, was carried out by Professor Denis Par at New Jersey's Centre for Molecular and Behavioural Neuroscience of Rutgers University in Newark. Looking into amygdala and how its activity impacts behaviour, Professor Par identified a critical component of the amygdalas neural network normally involved in the extinction, or elimination, of fear memories, The Science Daily online reported. Earlier research has revealed that in animals and humans, the amygdala is involved in the expression of innate fear responses, such as the fear of snakes, along with the formation of new fear memories as a result of experience, such as learning to fear the sound of a siren that predicts an air raid. Research has shown that in any given year about 40 million adults (18 or older) will suffer from some form of anxiety disorder, including debilitating conditions such as phobias, panic disorders and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Combat soldiers returning from action have increasingly shown anxiety disorders, which can lead to myriad problems that hinder daily life or ruin it altogether such as drug abuse, alcoholism, marital problems, unemployment and suicide. According to one estimate, nearly 15 percent of American troops returning from Iraq and Afghanistan develop PTSD. |
Vegetarians prone to strokes: Study
Now a study has shown that deficiency of Vitamin B12, usually seen in vegetarians, can predispose a person to strokes much more than the usual risk factors — diabetes and hypertension.
"While 20% of Indians suffer from diabetes and high BP," says Dr Arun Garg, consultant neurologist,
This risk is four times higher in vegetarians. As folate is found in vegetables and fruits, its deficiency is rare among Indians, but that of vitamin B12 is common.
Normal levels of homocysteine are 5-15 micromol per litre. Increased levels heighten the chances of blood clotting, which can lead to decrease in blood supply to the brain, causing a stroke. Studies have found high levels of homocysteine in over 80% of stroke patients. Even a rise of five micromol increases the risk of stroke by two times.
The link between strokes and vegetarianism was confirmed in a five-year study by Garg and Dr A K Jain, neurologist, Jain Neuro Centre, in two Max hospitals and this Centre. From 2003, 4,680 OPD patients were screened for vitamin B12 and homocysteine levels. Those with a history of stroke, heart disease, diabetes, chronic renal, liver problems, alcoholics and those on vitamin supplements were excluded. Most had vague complaints — tingling, numbness, chronic headaches and depressive symptoms like sleeplessness and fatigue.
It was found that 60% patients had vitamin B12 levels below 400 pg/ml and 38.9% had less than 200 pg/ml. Homocysteine levels were high (over 15 micromol/l) in 36%. And out of these, over 80% were either strict vegetarians or took non-vegetarian food less than once a week. This showed the co-relation between vegetarians and strokes.
To confirm the study, 418 ischemic stroke patients between 30-85 years admitted during the same period were analysed. It was found that homocysteine levels were high (over 15 micromol/l) in 77.5% of the patients showing vitamin deficiency can result in strokes. The effects of a stroke are serious and sometimes fatal — paralysis, loss of speech and vision, unsteadiness, double vision or even unconsciousness.
Dr Vinay Goyal, associate professor, neurology, AIIMS, says, "It's true that vegetarians have less vitamin B12 as compared to non-vegetarians. This has been proven in Indian Americans, Germans, and Chinese/Singaporeans."
Prevention would cost less than Rs 10 per day, says Garg. All one has to do is take prescribed doses of vitamin B12 and B6 and folic acid. These are shown to reduce homocysteine level by 38% and the risk of stroke by 20-30%. Goyal says, "Vitamin B12 is also there in soyabean, legumes, dairy products, cottage cheese, etc." Garg and Jain gave vegetarian patients in their study daily vitamin supplements.
Their symptoms disappeared completely after 3-6 months of therapy. Vegetarians with vitamin B12 deficiency need life-long treatment. A dose of 1-1.5 mg/day is required, says Garg. The government too should fortify food with it, much like iodized salt. Also, as

Wanna boost memory.....then start smoking......

Nicotine has long been known to have a stimulating effect on the brain. However, the deadly side effects of cancer, stroke and heart disease, mean its benefits have been largely set aside by medical research.
Now researchers, who hope to develop drugs which copy the active ingredients in tobacco without causing heart disease, cancer, stroke or addiction, discovered that nicotine can boost the intelligence and recall ability of animals in laboratory experiments.
The researchers, who plan to present their latest findings at the Forum of European Neuroscience in
However, the scientists stressed the new treatment at best will only give patients a few extra months of independent life instead of fully freeing them of Alzheimer's disease.
"The substances that we call drugs have, in the majority of cases, do have a mixture of beneficial and harmful effects and nicotine no exception to this," Professor Ian Stoleman of
Researchers led by Prof Stolerman studied how nicotine alters the brain's circuitry to boost concentration and memory. In his study, he showed that the concentration power in rats went up by 5 per cent when injected with nicotine, the report said.

Funny, But Real, Complaint for Yahoo Mail!
"I found that the "delete" button is now where the "reply" button used to be! I use Yahoo Mail Beta, don't know if it has happened on the regular version. And the reply button is now located, you guessed it! right next to the delete button. How incredibly stupid to put those buttons right next to each other," the user said.
A long time ago, the Sunnyvale company debuted the beta version of the mail solution that was meant to represent a real POP3 interface for the web-based product. Recently, it started to introduce one of the major updates prepared for the mail solution, implementing Yahoo Messenger and unlimited storage size for all the users.
As you can see, some of the updates made for Yahoo Mail might disappoint the users; moreover, they can make users revolt against the parent company. Although I agree that it's not quite an intelligent move to place the delete button in the place of the reply one, the user must be very cautious when it comes to email messages. However, Yahoo managed to attract some angry users on its side, users that might decide to look for an alternative to the famous Yahoo mail service.
"In all my years of using software and the internet I have never been so disgusted. The day the ads showed up I called technical assitance and was the 72nd caller! And they claim they haven't had very many complaints!" the angry user concluded.
In order to be able to achieve and maintain happiness we need to, actively, be able to do two things:
- Complain and then let go (Dump the baggage, the roadblocks to happiness.)
- Express Gratitude (The open expression of gratitude promotes happiness.)

City students turn inventors
Gen Next has come a long away ahead of their earlier counterparts. Here are eight students who have turned into inventors
Afinal year project has turned a bunch of kids into inventors and what’s more, their invention, which is faultless, is sure to earn them praise from bachelors. Jambulingam, Jesly Josey, Chembian and Aravindh Ganesh have come out with Autonomous Chef-Bot, a robot that can cook south Indian dishes in a jiffy.“An electric induction pan is used for heating. The ingredients required for a dish are stored in docks that can be manually removed and refilled. The amount and timing of the outlets from each dock are controlled by the valves. Even the vegetables are chopped by the machine. Since seasoning is the main part of our cooking, we have added the provision for it in our Autonomous Chef-Bot,” explains Jambulingam.
How safe is it to let a robot take over the task of cooking ? “It’s safer than the micro wave oven,” he assures.
Well, that’s not all.
There is another team that has designed an other system to enhance our regular ATMs. What’s special about it? This machine not only dispenses money, but also issues DDs, takes in cash and identifies fake notes. “This is a simple and cost-effective solution by which the process of filling pay-in slips and standing in long queues can be eliminated. An additional feature is that fake notes can be detected. This project is a golden proposal for the development of the banking sector,” asserts Rahul. He, along with Sivakumar, Satya Santosh and Sriram Arvikar, have come out with the new design. Their first idea was to install a voting machine in an ATM!
These two inventory designs have been patented by the students.
“We have registered our designs and acquired a provisional right for 18 months. Now, our status is ‘patent pending’,”adds Rahul.
Looks like these youngsters have struck hard while the iron is still hot.

Transsexual as heroine in Tamil film
She is busy rehearsing her lines and learning the nuances in the art of make-up, as the offer is not a passport to fame and wealth for her but a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to join the mainstream of the society. Karpaga, the heroine of the film Paal (gender), is the first transgender in the country to don the role in a mainstream movie.
“They have played lead roles in short films and documentaries earlier. But, this is the first time that a transgender is featured as a heroine in a commercial movie,” says film director D Sivakumar.
Barring a few exceptions, the transsexuals have so far been shown only in poor light in Indian films. But, the heroine of the film Paal is shown as an intellect — a short filmmaker, who is smitten by the love bug but facing a dilemma in revealing her identity (that of a transsexual) to her lover. Not a single scene in the film, to be released in September, will be obscene, he adds.
Besides exploring the travails and trauma of a transgender, the film also stresses on the need for families to accept them.
Before the society and the government step in, it is parents, who should understand their feelings and protect them, he adds.
Sivakumar exudes confidence that the small-budget (around Rs 80 lakh) movie will do well in the box office. “Movie fans in Tamil Nadu always welcome and encourage novel and revolutionary ventures and I’ve full confidence on the story and my screen play,” he says.
The hunt for the heroine took several months with a film crew visiting Mumbai and Pune before finally zeroing in on Karpaga, who is now based in Bangalore.
Well known actor, Revathi, will play the role of Karpaga’s mother in the film.
Born in a middle class family in Erode in western Tamil Nadu, Karpaga, who was then an only son to his parents, left home at the age of 17 and headed for Mumbai. When she returned as Karpaga after five years, the family was shattered but eventually accepted her.
“I was initially reluctant to take up the offer as I was sceptical about the way transgenders are shown in films. It was only after the director narrated the entire story and explained the positive aspects in the film that I agreed to do it,” she recalls.
“The Censor Board takes exception when animals are shown in films without the mandatory permissions. But, transgenders have been mocked at and ridiculed in several films. No one has come forward to object it,” the actor rues.
Karpaga, who has taken a crash course in acting and is undergoing training in dance, is already flooded with film offers. “I’ve got a couple of offers to act as heroine and one as a villain. But, I’ll decide my future career only after the release of Paal,” she says.
“Kadhal” Kandhas, an up and coming choreographer, plays the lead role opposite to Karpaga in the film. A transgender, who calls herself ‘Living Smile’ Vidya, is one of the assistant directors, besides playing a cameo role in the film.

Now, a tractor cheaper than Nano
The low-cost tractor has not been designed by any autogiant, but a small-time farmer in Erode who has barely finished sixth grade in school.
“It has been my dream to design and manufacture a tractor for the poor and medium farmer. For, the tractors in the market are not affordable for the small-time farmers like me and hiring them is also an expensive affair,” says 53-year-old A.Rangasamy
If the mini-tractors cost about Rs.2.35 lakh and a big tractor is pegged at Rs. 5.50 lakhs, Rangasamy’s low-cost vehicle with five ploughs cost just about Rs.75,000. If farmers insist on use of new parts for the tractor, the cost would double up.
However, he claims his tractor ploughs deeper and faster than the mini-tractor and guzzles less fuel than the big tractors.
This seven-feet high tractor works on a car chassis and is equipped with a eight horse power air cooler engine.
With just a welder and a turner for assistance, this farmer created his dream machine after a two year struggle.
“The first attempt was a failure as the gear box and chassis were not suitable. I lost some money, but I did not give up. Then I changed them and it worked,” he reveals. The tractor can carry a load of one tonne.
A mulberry farmer in Tiruvannamalai, Rangasamy moved to Erode a decade ago after his crops failed.
But his keen interest in automobile mechanics prompted him to set up a workshop. Six years ago, he first designed a low-cost tricycle for transporting rubbish.
Now, most of “garbage” tricycles doing the rounds in Erode Corporation and neighbouring municipalities are made from Rangasamy’s workshop.
“I have sold 2000 tricycles in Erode district,” says the farmer, who has started Annamalai Tricycle Company. At just Rs. 6,000, the tricycles are a big hit and he sells at least three tricycles a week.
With enquiries pouring in for his cheap tractor already, he plans to make and sell at least 10 tractors this year. “I wanted to do something for the struggling farmers. And I think my tractor will help the farmers,” he says.

Dubai, S’pore new hubs for learning
Now, Dubai and Singapore are emerging as education hubs with focus on attracting students from Asian countries, particularly from south India. While the Dubai government set up the Dubai Knowledge Village (KV) in 2003 to showcase the Arab city as a destination for higher education in West Asia, around the same time Singapore government constituted a multi-government agency, Singapore Education, to promote the Southeast Asian nation as an education hub.
Many students also prefer these two countries since costwise they works out cheaper. Another factor that lures Chennai students is that they get to study in a country where the culture is more or less similar and therefore they feel at home. “Nearly 35% of our students are from India,” points out Raymi Van der Spek, vice president (administration), University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD).
“Among the Indians, 95% of them come from Chennai, Kochi and Hyderabad. They largely take up a course in business, IT and banking,” adds Jay Jayatilaka, manager, marketing, UOWD.
According to Jay, “Tamil Nadu is the biggest contributor of postgraduate students to our university. This could be probably because of the large number of quality colleges and universities that are situated in Chennai, Coimbatore and Madurai, which churn out good graduates annually.”
Cedwyn Fernandes, chair, College of Graduate Studies at the UOWD, agrees: “Since students from south India have a strong background in engineering and analytical skills, we get many of them in our department.”
Dubai also has an international campus of the famed Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS Pilani) and the Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala. The American University in Dubai, University of Middlesex, SAE Institute, Manchester Business School Worldwide and the European University College Brussels are all located in the Dubai Knowledge Village.
In Singapore, students from Tamil Nadu find the universities as a home away from home as the culture is very much Indian. Students, who fail to make it to the main campus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, can opt for its Singapore campus.
Same is the case with those aspiring to study management education at the University Of Chicago Graduate School Of Business, which also has a campus in the Southeast Asian country.
Outbound students mostly pick MBA, engg
“The post-graduate market is five or six times bigger than that of undergraduate courses. As far as Indian students in the US are concerned, they do either engineering or management courses. The numbers are growing for law as well. Though there are always takers for design courses, the market is down for biotech. In fact, several biotech students are trying to change subjects and go for management courses too,” said Paul Chellakumar, chairman, Campus Abroad educational consultants.
Those like Dhruv Ranganathan, a student from Vidya Mandir, Mylapore, have made their own informed choice. He is all set to pursue a bachelor’s programme in mathematical physics at Harvey Mudd College, California. “In India, you don’t have too much focus on clear sciences. This college is a small place, offers only under-graduate courses and specialises in engineering and science subjects. I would not be able to specialise in my physics programme at this level in India or in some of the institutes abroad. I would have had to do a degree in general physics and then do the specialisation during my master’s. However, thanks to this course, I can finish my bachelor’s degree and do a PhD programme, which is what I want to do eventually,” says Dhruv.
His friend Ashirwad Vishwanathan Anand plans to do a BA in economics from the University of Chicago. “This institution has produced several Nobel laureates in economics… It will be a four-year degree starting with the semester in fall. Ideally, I would like to do some field work in microfinance for about two years before pursuing a master’s degree,” he says.
However, their seniors seem to be keeping in line with the broad trends by moving abroad to complete their postgraduate programmes after a BE/B Tech degree. Aditya Prabhakar, who wants to do a master’s programme in aerodynamics from the University of Southampton in the UK, chose the course because he liked the structure of the programme and would be able to finish it in a year. “However, education is expensive in the UK and job prospects for Indians are slightly difficult. There might be a bit of a problem to extend the student visa,” the engineering graduate from Muthukumaran Institute of Technology said.
Since most students may not be able to avail themselves the opportunity of working in their field of interest before studying further, Bharat Moorthy considers himself lucky. He had the chance to work on operations research at an R&D wing of a software company before doing a master’s in industrial and operations research at the University of Michigan. “While students usually make research and funding a criterion for settling on a university, I was interested in working. So I chose an institute with a good placement record. I will also be able to choose courses from different schools, like art and design, for example,” Bharat said.
Do’s
Before choosing a university or course, be focused on what you want. Don’t blindly trust consultants.
Make sure the course is conducted in English, especially if you are flying to China or Russia. Some universities in these countries offer courses in the local language.
Attend pre-departure briefings. British Council has one on Fridays, 4-5 pm. US Educational Foundation In India conducts it every Wednesday, 10-11.30 a.m.
Visit UGC and Association of Indian Universities websites to know if the course you are choosing are recognised.
Approach banks for education loans well in advance as it is a long drawn out procedure. You must have clear documents of properties which you will need to provide as collateral.
Don’ts
Do not apply to colleges at the eleventh hour. Apply sufficiently early so that you can have a choice.
Do not approach mediators or unauthorised agents to get the visa. It is always best to get the visa as per procedure.
Do not join a MBBS degree course merely because it works out cheaper than in India as the course may not be valid for practice in India.
Do not wait to book flight tickets for lower fares at the last minute. Seats may not be available during peak season.
Do not travel abroad without making arrangements for accommodation. Find a friend who is willing to share an apartment or ensure that a hostel accommodation is booked.

Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na
Cast: Imran Khan, Genelia, Prateik Babbar, Ratna Pathak
Rating:
There is a girl and there is a boy. Both are extremely different yet are extremely close to each other. Girl is rich, tongue-in-cheek, dominant and aggressive while the boy has had a middle class upbringing and is submissive, soft-spoken and calm. Opposites attract and so do they but not as lovers, as friends! So when do they realize its love?
Abbas Tyrewala definitely comes up with a winner in the form of Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. He tells us an ordinary love story, whose theme is Pyaar Dosti Hai (Love is friendship)... a la Kuch Kuch Hota Hai... however presents it in a much mature fashion than its glorious predecessor. He tackles this confused romantic comedy with élan and impresses you with his subtlety in terms of direction. Not a single scene, actor is overly dramatic. The characters are real, identifiable and extremely cute!
Jai (Imran) and Aditi (Genelia) are ‘best friends’ and are extremely possessive of each other but are definitely not in love. They long for each other’s company and still wonder why close friends and parents believe that they are in love! After giving a deep thought both realize its high time they find themselves a special someone too since one cant spend a lifetime with a best friend! However when they do find their respective ‘special someone’ they realize love is not about finding a perfect someone, it’s about feeling perfectly happy with an imperfect partner.
The film is definitely not flawless. There are rough cuts here and there, especially in terms of editing. The film doesn’t have a great beginning but it picks up as it nears the interval, however again slows down in the climax! The pace keeps fluctuating, which at times distracts you, and makes you fidget in your seat. The story too has nothing new to offer.
It is the casting of the film that saves it from being an average just another youth film.
Abbas’s wife Pakhi deserves a standing ovation for her fantastic casting, as it is the choice of actors in the film that makes it so likeable! All the youngsters are understated, thus highly effective. Rotlu, Bombs, Jiggy, Mau (Genelia) and Ratz (Imran)... the nicknames of the characters make you doubt their likeability initially but as the film progresses, each character grows on you and you start becoming a part of the chirpy cute – just out of college gang!
Imran gets a tailor made role for him, as his petite personality and casual attitude makes him fit the bill of Jai perfectly. He struggles with his expressions initially as gets stuck with one ‘surprised raised eye brows’ expression but gets better later on. Genelia overshadows Imran big time. She looks extremely fresh and lights up the screen with her presence. Prateik Babbar, Naseeruddin Shah and Ratna Pathak come up with brilliant performances and provide you with all the light moments in the film. Sohail and Arbaaz Khan too tickle your funny bone with their cameos. Imran’s girlfriend Avantika too makes a special appearance in the film. Watch out for her in a disco sitting next to Imran.
Fashion designer Ashley Rebello deserves a special mention as he dresses Imran and Genelia as per their age and makes them look flawless.
Music is youthful, foot tapping and energetic. Kuddos to AR Rahman yet again.
JTYJN definitely deserves a watch... and not just for Imran.

Man sent to jail for 4,060 yrs for sexual abuse
Jurors sentenced James Kevin Pope guilty and handed over the punishment of 40 life prison terms. At the request of prosecutors, state district judge Graham Quisenberry ordered Pope to serve the sentences consecutively, adding up to 4,060 years.
He will be eligible for parole in the year 3209, according to the Parker county district attorney's office. Pope, 43, abused the girls for nearly two years. It came to authorities' attention earlier this year after Pope made several inappropriate comments to a friend, who notified Child Protective Services.
Zimbabwe voluntarily pulls out of 2009 Twenty20 World Cup
"Zimbabwe cricket has taken note that the British government is likely to refuse to grant visas for the Zimbabwe cricket team to take part in the ICC World Twenty20 2009," the ICC said in statement issued after its annual meeting in Dubai.
"Therefore, the Zimbabwe delegation has decided to recommend to its board that the team should withdraw from that event."
It will report back to the ICC on the final decision of the Zimbabwe board in one month.
The ICC executive board met for a third day on Friday to resolve the deadlock over Zimbabwe, which has lurched from one crisis to another in the last few years, on and off the pitch.
Britain has led calls to suspend Zimbabwe from international cricket following last week's widely-criticised presidential election run-off in which Mugabe retained power unopposed. It welcomed Friday's decision.
"I welcome the suspension of Zimbabwe from ICC tournaments for a year. This will allow the Twenty20 tournament in England to go ahead," British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said in a statement.
"It also sends a powerful message to Zimbabwe that the government must change or face further isolation."
The England and Wales Cricket Board had already cancelled Zimbabwe's 2009 tour of England and severed all bilateral cricketing ties in June, under instructions from the government, a former colonial power in Zimbabwe.
"We made our position very clear at the start of the discussions on Zimbabwe," ECB chairman Giles Clarke told BBC Radio. "We broke off bilateral relationships with Zimbabwe and we will not be playing them in the near future under the present circumstances."
Britain has long been critical of Mugabe and has accused him of trying to steal an election and using violence and intimidation to silence his political opponents.
South Africa, a traditional supporter of Zimbabwe, also suspended bilateral cricketing ties with its neighbour last month, but the influential Indian cricket board is opposed to the suspension of its Zimbabwean counterparts.
Zimbabwe is expected to remain one of the ICC's 10 full members, a status given to test-playing nations.
"The Zimbabwe delegation has agreed to take this decision in the greater interest of world cricket and the ICC," the ICC statement continued.
"This recommendation should be viewed as a one-off and will not be taken as a precedent."
Zimbabwe's national team has not played test cricket since January 2006 following a series of confrontations between senior players and the administration.
Outgoing ICC president Ray Mali has recommended that a sub-committee be set up to advise the ICC executive board on all matters relating to Zimbabwean cricket, including its return to full participation in the international game.
Mugabe won re-election in a June 27 run-off ballot after Morgan Tsvangirai, leader of the main opposition, pulled out of the running because of attacks on his supporters.
US transgender 'man' gives birth
Thomas Beatie, who was born a woman but after surgery and hormone treatment lives as a man, has given birth to a girl at an Oregon hospital, People magazine reported on Thursday. Beatie, 34, who kept female reproductive organs when he legally became a man 10 years ago, confirmed the birth to the magazine. The baby, conceived through artificial insemination using donor sperm and Beatie's own eggs, was born on June 29 and Beatie and the baby are "healthy and doing well," People reported. "The only thing different about me is that I can't breast-feed my baby. But a lot of mothers don't," People quoted Beatie as saying. He has had his breasts surgically removed. He told the magazine that contrary to published reports, the baby was not delivered by Caesarean section, but no other details about the birth were given. The thinly bearded Beatie told The Oprah Winfrey Show in April he began his sexual transformation about 10 years ago when he began taking testosterone treatment and had surgery to remove mammary glands and flatten his chest. Upon deciding to have a child about two years ago, he halted his bimonthly hormone injections and resumed menstruating. Beatie's wife, Nancy, 46, whom he married five years ago, was unable to conceive because of a prior hysterectomy. Otherwise, he has said, "I wouldn't be doing this." His spouse has two grown daughters by a previous marriage. She said on Oprah's show their parental roles would be fairly traditional despite his transgender status. "He's going to be the father, and I'm going to be the mother," she said. The couple, who operate a T-shirt printing business in Bend, Oregon, are legally married and he is recognized under Oregon state law as a man. |

Ban suspended, Shoaib eyes Champions Trophy
The court, however, did not remove the seven million rupees fine that was imposed on Shoaib last month by an appellate tribunal which heard his appeal against the original five-year ban imposed on him by the Pakistan Cricket Board in April.
The PCB had banned the bowler for five years for violating a two-year probation period and other counts of indiscipline. Shoaib then filed a writ petition in the High Court against the ban and a separate application to stay the ban.
"The court retained the fine but suspended the ban and he is now available for selection. But first of all he has to pay the fine of 7 million rupees. Today was the last working day of the honorable High Court and some kind of stay had to be given to him otherwise the writ petition could not have been heard before September," said Tafazzul Rizvi, PCB's legal counsel.
"The court will now hear his writ petition and arguments for and against it sometime in September and only than will it decide on lifting the ban and dropping the fine. We have not seen the full order of the court as yet but we will show full respect the decision of the court," Rizvi added.
The pacer said he was relieved at the court decision and was keen to resume playing for Pakistan.
"It has been a hard last few months for me. I am very relieved today but I just want to get back to playing cricket and regain my match fitness. I am very keen to represent my country in the Champions Trophy at home," he said.
Shoaib said he would try to get some practice in England for some county or league side.
"I am thankful to the PCB chairman and the people for their support in last two months. I am keen to now resume positively," he said.
"I filed the writ petition because I was disappointed with the decision of the appellate tribunal," he added.
Rizvi meanwhile made it clear that Shoaib's selection was something which only the selectors could decide.
"It is not a matter of right for anyone to play for Pakistan, that's the job for the selection committee to decide," he said.
Buying guide for smartphones
mainstream. Today, one can even get a decent enterprise device for as little as Rs 10,000. And there’s plenty to choose from as well-- every cell phone manufacturer worth his or her salt has an enterprise device or two up their sleeves. Some, like Nokia and HTC, have several. While the economists might blather about more choices empowering the consumer, the fact is that more choices also do end up confusing one about just which model to pick up. Well, there are no hard and fast rules in this regard but keeping the following points in mind might just help.
Operating system
Just as you have to decide between Linux and Windows on a PC, you will need to make up your mind about whether you would rather go for a Symbian, Windows Mobile, Palm OS, Black-Berry or Linux device and each OS also has its own sub-groups too (Symbian, for instance, has different editions of Series 60 and UIQ).Some of the factors to keep in mind are speed of operation, number of applications available (preferably free ones) and compatibility with other devices , before you opt for a particular OS.
Do remember that unlike in PCs, you cannot install any OS on any phone -- so if you are dreaming of running a Symbian OS on an iPhone, forget it! Here you are pretty much stuck with the OS that comes on the device. No changes allowed.
Screen size

While screen size is indeed important on all cell phones, it attains an entirely different dimension in the case of enterprise phones.
This is because one often ends up viewing, documents, presentations and spreadsheets on enterprise devices and even browsing the Internet a fair bit. And the bigger the screen, the lesser the strain on your eyes and fingers.
Interface
Do you like touch-screens, physical keypads or a blend of the two? And even in physical keypads, do you want a proper QWERTY keypad, a semi-QWERTY keypad or just the good old alphanumeric affair? Well, it all really depends on your needs.Touch-screen users normally end up with larger screens and the convenience of being able to scribble using a stylus, but have often to put up with iffy handwriting recognition systems and slightly lower battery performance.
On the other hand, those with physical keypads often find the keys way too small to really replicate the convenience of a notebook but get better battery performance and more software applications to play around with. Suit yourself!
Software
Different devices come with different software options. For instance, some might come with a full-fledged office suite while others might just have an application that allows you to view (but not edit or create) MS Office files. You will also need to consider whether your device comes with a PDF reader, a good email client (preferably supporting push mail) and a decent Internet browser. It’s just like a PC -- the hardware is every bit as important as the software.
Connectivity
As most enterprise phone users are frequent travellers, do check if the phone will work on all networks. If you have no intention of straying beyond Indian borders, do make sure that it supports EDGE (you will be surprised to know that some high-end enterprise phones do not support it).And it is not just a matter of networks, you will also need to check out if other connectivity options such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are available onboard and also the kind of devices supported. It always helps if you can connect a projector or printer directly to your phone!
Multimedia

The days when people used to insist that multimedia had no place in enterprise phones are passe. So make sure that the camera on your phone supports features like business card reading and whether the phone’s speakers are good enough to allow you to use it in speakerphone mode even in a meeting, if need be.
Also check if the phone allows you to record long audio clips and whether it allows image editing --- you will be surprised at just how often you need them.
Processor, storage
All the features highlighted before would be useless if your phone ran out of juice in no time at all. Similarly, a good processor is necessary to ensure that your device keeps ticking over nicely.Storage of course will allow you to carry most of your files in your hand, and having lots of memory to play around will ensure that you can run multiple applications without your device hanging or crashing.

Denmark happiest country in the in the world
Overall, the world is getting happier, according to the US government-funded World Values Survey, done regularly by a global network of social scientists. It found increased happiness from 1981 to 2007 in 45 of 52 countries analysed.
"I strongly suspect that there is a strong correlation between peace and happiness," said Ronald Inglehart, a political scientist at the University of Michigan's Institute for Social Research, who directed the study.

In order to be able to achieve and maintain happiness we need to, actively, be able to do two things: Complain and then let go (Dump the baggage, the roadblocks to happiness.)Openly Express Gratitude (The open expression of gratitude promotes happiness.)
